The Friends of Joyce Tower Society Celebrate their 5th Birthday

Sep 4, 2017

Happy Birthday finalThe Friends of Joyce Tower (FJT) Society – the group of wonderful volunteers who staff the tower and keep it open 365 days per year – marked an important milestone by celebrating their 5th Birthday last week.

 The Party Begins

And what a celebration it was!

The group gathered in the Haddington House Hotel in Dun Laoghaire where the function room was bedecked with Happy Birthday signage and balloons. After some formalities and a wonderful video tribute to the FJT volunteers, there was music, dancing, singing recitations and more.

Vincent Browne, who established the FJT way back in 2012, was the guest of honour. He complimented the friends on the wonderful progress made over the past five years and wished them continued success into the future.  He joined the current chairman in cutting a specially commissioned cake.4-Cake - Copy - Copy (2)

It must be said that the volunteers present know how to party and, as soon as the formalities were out of the way, people began dancing in the aisles to wonderful music provided by volunteer Aidan Coleman. An FJT event would not be the same without Aidan’s involvement.

Thanks to volunteers Mike FitzGerald, James Holahan, Andrew Basquille, Pat Crowley and Rob Goodbody who conspired to organise this terrific event. Thanks also to Sadie Delaney, Helen Colgan and all the committee members who helped out on the night.

And, finally, thanks to our volunteers who joined into the spirit of things made it all very special indeed with their individual contributions to the singing and general mayhem – some of the songs, I’m told, were particularly difficult!

Here’s to the next five years!
